They had two cigar boxes full of all kinds. Had a peace pipe bowl and a stem that had broken in two pieces made of stone. And a lot of beads.
They sold them at some point. Joined: Mar New Braunfels, Texas. Arrowhead hunters - or those who have an eye for finding these things are probably badazzes at the Spot the Critter game. My dad could be walking down a trail and spot an arrowhead from 20ft away. The only one I've found was from blindly reaching under water looking for a rock to skip down the Guadalupe.
I pulled it up and recognized it immediately but probably would have never seen it if I was walking along. I know a guy that can fall in a mud hole and find them, His mom has a collection in the Smithsonian, I cant find one to save my life. The key for me is picking up the flint and looking at it. A lot of times it's just a sliver covered with mud. Pick it up examine it and discover it's actually a point.
Look for flint. It's rare to find a random point out by itself. Look on hillsides. Remember our Indians were plains Indians and slept mostly out on the ground. The hillsides blocked the wind.

The Texas Hill Country is a rich and verdant region, and many smaller Indian bands lived in the area. Freshly plowed ground is a trove of material that was previously buried, and rain cleans off arrowheads and other impermeable objects, making them more visible.
This confluence of events occurs most frequently in springtime. Although many tribes lived along the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, centuries of aggressive weather events such as hurricanes have destroyed most of what they left behind. That said, storm tides reveal artifacts that were previously buried in the same way as rain on a freshly plowed field, and an eagle-eyed stroll along a beach can sometimes be productive.
The sides of streams in places with good tree cover were favorite places for bands of Indians to camp, and such sites can be rich with discarded or accidentally lost arrowheads.
The Alabama-Coushatta Indians were the most abundant people in east Texas, and they lived concentrated around the Woodville area. Around San Marcos was rich hunting territory. Many semi-permanent camps were set up in the game-rich Big Thicket region. Comment Post Cancel. Adam - Pay attention to what Greg has told you about Public Lands. You can wind up in jail and fined hunting on Public Land. Check out your immediate area - introduce yourself to your neighbors and inquire about searching their land, if it's farmland or something similar.
You need to get to know your neighbors anyway so this is a good start. Then, like Greg says, google maps in your local area and find spots that have potential for hunting - check with the local county courthouse online and see who owns the land. Always, always, get permission before proceeding to hunt on private property. Check out farm land that is planted yearly and hunt just after they break ground and disk it down for planting.
Maybe even walk the plowed field but that's kinda tough on the ankles. Also check out creek beds especially where there are sandbars and gravel bars at the bends in the creeks and rivers.
Wash outs on the sides of hills is also a good area to hunt. These are just some pointers but you'll get the idea. Even level ground at the base of hills is good.
Get out there and get to hunting. Let's see what you find. Do not go on any private ranch lands without permission from the owners. Especially ranches that guide or sell leases to deer hunters.
